2021 World Horseshoe Pitching Championships.
As a participant, you are expected to know the “Official Rules of Play” and the special requirements of this event.

We hope you enjoy pitching in this, the world’s largest horseshoe tournament.

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING:

Most class play will be fifteen (15) 40-shoe games. Some classes may play a game or two less. Tie games in any class will remain as ties recorded as ½ win and ½ loss. Win-Loss records shall determine the final class standings. A tie for first place will be decided by a 40 shoe playoff. If a playoff game is tied at the end of 40 shoes, extra innings will be played. All other position ties will be decided by tournament ringer percentage. Cash prizes will be paid to the top 4, 5 or 6 positions depending on class size. Adult players only advancing to their respective Division Championship will be required to pay an additional $50.00 finals fee. All championship play shall be 40 points.
The tournament committee reserves the right to change any class size and or format as needed.
You are encouraged to arrive early and familiarize yourself with the facilities, the area, and the tournament layout and setup.
The Winnemucca Events Complex is located at 1000 Fairgrounds Road, Winnemucca, Nevada.

CHECKING IN:
There will be signs posted to direct you to check-in. Please plan to arrive at least 1 1/2 hours before your scheduled start time on your first day of play for shoe-check, class photos and pre-tournament announcements. These are mandatory and you must be present. You must show your 2021 NHPA or Canadian membership cards at check-in. If you cannot present your card, a $20.00 deposit can be paid that will allow you to play. The deposit is refundable only with proof of purchase of a current membership. Bring only the horseshoes you intend to use in the tournament to shoe check. ( 2 pairs maximum ). If for some reason you need to use an alternate pair later, they will need to be checked at that time. Random shoe checks may take place during the event. Pickup sticks will be checked to make sure they conform to NHPA specifications. You must be wearing a shirt with at a minimum, your last name and state or province professionally lettered in one inch (1”) or larger letters on the back. No sleeveless shirts, cut-off pants, or open toed shoes are allowed during competition.

DURING PLAY:
No alcohol, tobacco of any kind, or e-cigarettes shall be permitted within the confines of the courts at any time. Cell phones must be in silent mode. All pitchers are required to turn (water only if needed), one end of the court they are about to play on. No permanent marks are allowed to be placed on the walkways. At the beginning of each game, when both players are ready, they may pitch four ( 4 ) warm-up shoes each. Fouls lines will be monitored by judges and they have the authority to remove any shoe pitched in which they observed a foul line violation. The 30 second time limit in which to pitch both shoes will also be enforced. Be courteous to your opponent and also those playing on courts next to you. Stand at least two feet behind and on the opposite side of the platform as your opponent when not pitching. Short distance pitchers are required to move to the rear of the 40 foot platform if adjacent to a full distance class. Players should have measurement tools that meet NHPA specifications with them to help in determining the score. A judge can be called if the two players cannot determine the score or disagree. Judges calls are final. Scorekeepers will be keeping 2 courts at a time. It is your responsibility as a player to monitor the score at all times and to notify the scorekeeper immediately if there is an error. As soon as either player pitches a shoe in an inning, you have accepted the score as correct to that point in the game. If a game ends ( 40 shoes ) at the wrong of the court, and the scorekeeper was not notified of an error, that game will end as recorded. Judges will be on duty at all times to aid players with scoring if necessary.
If for some reason you must drop out prior to the event, please notify the Tournament Director at 816-738-0868. You cannot expect a refund but it is important in order to make necessary schedule adjustments and arrange for pacers. If you must drop out during the tournament, notify your shift Director or the tournament office.

AFTER COMPETITION:
Check the results daily! If you believe there is an error, notify the Tournament Director and/or the Computer Room Director immediately. Results errors must be reported within 15 minutes of the official stats room posting of the paper copy on the results bulletin board. All claims will be evaluated and the decision of the Directors will be final.
Make plans to attend the Hall of Fame Banquet on July 25th. Tickets are $30.00 each. The banquet will be held at the Winnemucca Convention Center. This is your chance to meet some of horseshoe pitching’s greatest players and promoters of all time.
