The National Horseshoe Pitchers Association announces the World Horseshoe Pitching Championships to be held in Gillette, WY. July 10, through July 22, 2006. Pitchers will compete for $114,000 in prize money. There are 904 pitchers entered, including 7 children less than 9 years of age.

Champions will be crowned in the following Divisions; Men, Women, Senior Men, Senior Women, Elders (over 70 yrs. of age) Junior Boys, Junior Girls.

Entries from 46 US states, 5 Canadian Provinces and Norway will vie for the crowns. Present Men's Champion Alan Francis of Ohio will be present to defend his crown as will Sue Snyder of Kentucky the Women's Champion. The hosting facility will boast 42 regulation clay courts at the Cam-plex, admission if free.

FACT SHEET

  • The current defending champions are Alan Francis, OH in the Mens Division, Alan will be seeking his 12th World title. Sue Snyder, KY in the Womens Division, Sue will be going after her 7th World title
  • 46 states and 3 countries are represented
  • The youngest competitor is Jaxon Rosancranz of SD at 7 years old; the oldest is Bob Champion of CO age 89.
  • This will be the 82nd year a World Championship has been conducted.
  • Records to be possibly broken Alan Francis' 12th title, Walter Ray Williams winning titles pitching right handed, is now pitching left-handed. He came in second last year!
  • Famous individuals entered in this event are Walter Ray Williams, leading money winner on the PBA tour
  • Dates of Championship Finals will be July 20, 21 at 1PM and the titles will be determined at 10 AM 7/22 for the Women and 3 PM for the Men.
  • Most participants will play 3 consecutive days with 5 games per day. The one with the most wins is declared that class' champion
  • Economic impact on host cities is estimated to be upwards of 5 million dollars
