VICKI CHAPELLE WINSTON, Oregon & Missouri

Inducted 1970

Player: Vicki Winston was the first women to be inducted to the NHPA Hall of Fame.  She won her first World Championship in 1956 as Vicki Chapelle of Portland, OR, and won the 1958 and 1959 titles as her father Cletus was serving as NHPA president.  She married Earl Winston in 1960, moved to Missouri.  She then won women’s championships in 1961, 1963, 1966, 1967, 1969, 1975, and 1981.  Her championship in 1981 was her tenth title and that is a record that still stands.  Her presence in our sport is also felt in the service that she has provided.  She has been Secretary of the Missouri Association for many years and assisted Earl as he headed up the Hall of Fame Committee, which is a position that she now chairs.  Vicki has the distinction of being a member of a family of Hall of Fame members:  Her father Cletus is an inductee (1981) as well as her brother Barry (1993) and her husband Earl (1988).
