LEN LIPOVSKY, Apple Valley, MN
Player/Organizer: Len Lipovsky was born December 7, 1926 and grew up in Boyceville, WI. He began pitching horseshoe at age ten. He moved to Minnesota and joined the Minneapolis Horseshoe Club. This was one of the most competitive club in the nation. Frank Stinson, Art Holter, Dale Lipovsky and Ron Cherrier were players in this club. Len was a club officer for many years and 1986 was appointed Regional Director, a position he served for 15 years. He was awarded the Regional Director of the Year Award in 1990. He was a top contender for the Intermediate Men's World title. He placed 3rd in 1987, 4th in 1988, 3rd in 1989, and in 1990 he won that Intermediate title with an 11-0 record averaging 69.5% ringers. He followed that up with a 5th place finish in 1991 and was runner-up in 1992. One of his best tournaments was the 1987 Minnesota State Tournament. In the 8 man Championship Class, he averaged 75% and came in 4th, not even in the money. Len did have 3 runner-up finishes in the competitive Minnesota State Tournament.
