John Lindmeier, IL
John was an avid participant in our sport for many years but was only able to qualify into 8 World Tournament Men’s Championship classes during a period from 1946 thru 1960. That was in the day of onsite qualifying and a man raising his family could not always make that trip just for the opportunity to try and pitch 200 shoes that would score high enough to place him in the top 36, or whatever size the Championship Class would be that year. Most of the time it was a 36-man round robin and they pitched 50 point cancellation games. In his 8 appearances in the Championship Class, he did place in the top ten 5 of those years. His two highest finishes were a 4th place in 1953 and a 5th place in 1951. His combined ringer percentage for those 8 appearances is 73.63%. John was elected the NHPA 2nd Vice President in 1951. Being from Illinois, John was able to appear on the Chicago TV series “Pitching Championship Horseshoes” five times. According to his son Richard, he won the gold horseshoe 4 of those times.
