Seventy-three Years Old. Known as Uncle Hughie.


    Industrial champion of the United States, ex-state champion of Ohio; entered by the B. F. Goodrich Rubber Company in the national tournaments, 1919-1920, St. Petersburg, Fla. Finished third in 1919 and fifth in 1920. Lost the state title to Geo. May, October 25, 1919. One of the most remarkable horseshoe pitchers in the country, and one of the first to throw the open shoe.


Horseshoe Pitching in California

    Horseshoe pitching is one of the favorite sports in the Golden State. For a number of years the game was played under no standard rules. The southern part of the State is the hot-bed for the game and is given to horseshoe pitching more than any other part of the Pacific Coast.
