TOURNAMENT AWARDED TO MONROE-WEST MONROE, LA
July 18 through July 30th 2011


Five locations have met the requirements for contention to host the 2011 NHPA World Tournament.


LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSAS

July 11th – July 23rd


Little Rock will be putting a “second” effort to win the bid for the World Tournament. This event will be held at the Arkansas State Fairgrounds located in Little Rock, Arkansas. It is within two miles of the Little Rock National Airport, surrounded by several freeways, I-30, I-40, I-430, I-630, also AMTRAK.


Within the Little Rock area are the Arkansas State Capital, Clinton Presidential Center, Heifer International Center Green Building, Central High School National Historic Site, Little Rock Zoo, as well as several museums, such as Arts Center, History Commission, National Guard Museum, MacArthur Museum, Old State House Museum, North Shore Maritime Center, which includes the USS Razorback Submarine, also baseball, golf courses, tennis courts, concerts, hiking areas along with many hotels/motels, and restaurants.


The Little Rock Air Force Base is nearby as well as several large hospitals such as VA, Children’s, Heart, University Medical Science. Within a couple hours is Hot Springs, several lakes for fishing, camping, underground caverns and a mine to look for your own diamond.


Little Rock is proposing two indoor sites to host the World Horseshoe Championships, the T.H. Barton Coliseum and the Dodge Hall of Industry. The proposed dates are July 11th – July 23rd, 2011


MONROE/WEST MONROE, LOUISIANIA

July 18th – July 30th

The largest full service meeting facility in Northeast Louisiana is the Monroe Civic Center.  With easy access from Interstate 20, it is a quick drive from any of the area hotels as well as the Monroe Regional Airport and Highway 165.  The Monroe Civic Center can house the NPHA World Tournament in their Arena which is 46,000 square feet with 7,600 stadium chair back seating.  The Monroe Civic Center Conference Hall, which is a short hallway walk from the Arena, has 14,000 multi purpose square feet of usable space and can be utilized as the overflow facility for the World Tournament.  The Monroe Convention Center serves as an ideal place for meeting, banquets, luncheons and trade shows and would be the perfect location to host NHPA meetings or other special functions as they arise under the World Tournament.  When using the Convention Center, you can easily access other areas of the Civic Center via a climate controlled corridor.

FLORENCE, SOUTH CAROLINA

July 11th – July 23rd

The Florence Civic Center…the largest convention, entertainment & exhibition facility in northeast South Carolina with over 50,000 square feet of multipurpose space perfect for the tournament.  This includes the 10,000 seat Arena, the 14,500 square foot Ballroom and the 5,200 square feet Meeting Rooms.

York County looks forward to welcoming the National Horseshoe Pitchers Association World Tournament back to Pennsylvania in 2011.


The York Expo Center offers a variety of outstanding amenities for the 2011 World Tournament, including first-class facilities, superior service, and a central location in the center of Pennsylvania’s #1 Tourist Region.


In 2008, York County had the pleasure of hosting the National Horseshoe Pitchers Association World Tournament at the York Expo Center Buildings utilized at the York Expo Center including Memorial Hall East and West, which housed 56 courts for the main event pitching. Horticultural Hall also held 12 practice courts and for the first time offered participants indoor, air-conditioned practice space.


We look forward to welcoming the event back to the York Expo Center in 2011.

KNOXVILLE, TENNESSEE

July 25th - August 6th


The Knoxville Tourism and Sports Corporation (KTSC) is the perfect partner to host the National Horseshoe Pitchers Association annual World Horseshoe/Championship Tournament in 2011! The KTSC can put together an impressive package to host a phenomenal event at the stunning Knoxville Convention Center (KCC). The KCC’s Exhibit Hall “B” features, 50,000 sq. ft. of exhibit hall floor space to house fifty sets of portable courts and two playoff courts with plenty of extra room. This facility has an underground loading dock featuring nine truck bays for easy off loading of material and courts. It has drive-on access via ramp door with 27’ wide x 16’ height freight doors. Concessions and restrooms are located on exhibit floor. The facility has 30’ ceiling height plenty of room for the high arch pitchers.

Whether you’re interested in arts, spectator sports or history and heritage, Knoxville’s attractions are sure to entertain even the hardest to please. From the world-renowned Knoxville Zoo exhibiting more than 230 species of animals to the Three Rivers Rambler train ride, family fun is always right around the corner.

The city’s downtown area is bursting with arts and culture with the Emporium Center for Arts & Culture and the modern Knoxville Museum of Art – not to mention the Tennessee Theatre, the state’s official theatre and one of the few great movie palaces from the Roaring ‘20s still in operation.
