FINALE

by Tina Hawkins, 2nd VP, Publicity and Promotions Director

Here it is! My final Newsline article as 2nd Vice President of the National Horseshoe Pitchers Association!

Serving the members of the NHPA for the past 9 years has been quite an experience. I’ve learned so much about the organization, as well as the people…Hopefully, what I have contributed has made some sort of difference. I’m sure that is the hope of each and every member (past and present) of the Executive Council.

The decision to run for National office is not one taken lightly. One does not enter into the role seeking fame or fortune or glory, but rather the opportunity to contribute ideas and expertise with the goal of improving the association and creating a better experience for all members.

Every one of your officers started out just like each of you… as a horseshoe pitcher and member of the NHPA. Just like you, they have a love of the sport.

Over time, however, for these men and women, “a love of the sport” has developed into a passion and desire to make things better! They have chosen to sacrifice many hours of their personal, vacation and family time for the good of the association and they deserve your support.

There are a lot of great ideas in the minds of your executive council - but they can’t think of EVERYTHING!!  You, the members, are full of ideas as well. I encourage you to share those concepts with those who have dedicated themselves to the jobs.

Remember that “the council” is made up of regular people, just like you, with thoughts and ideas and – yes…FEELINGS – who are putting forth the effort to improve and grow the NHPA.

Please, collaborate with them and offer your suggestions (rather than criticisms) for the good of the association. They are all there to work for YOU!

Though I will no longer be working for you at the end of 2017, I will still be around and will still be boasting about our association everywhere I go. Now, perhaps I can actually enjoy all the fabulous vacation destinations that play host to our World Tournaments.  I may even manage a debut in the Championships some day!
