Dan Schlosser Express Thanks For Stokes Award
Please allow me to express my gratitude to the NHPA for presenting me the Arch Stokes Memorial Award during the 1977 World Tournament. I was extremely surprised and completely at a loss for words.

Although I physically received the award, I really feel that the Stokes Award has been won by the Drake County Horseshoe Club. Our guys and gals worked long and hard for more than a year to assure that the 1977 World Tournament would be one in which all pitchers and our community could take pride. They did a fantastic job and I'm proud to be able to count them as friend and neighbors.

I will always cherish the award, but what greater reward could there be than to have had the opportunity to spend 10 days with 613 fine folks from 41 states and four provinces of Canada? They are wonderful people who just happen to pitch horseshoes.
